What do you get when you combine music, art, dance, food and fun? The annual Art & Soul festival in Downtown Oakland of course—and it’s going on this
holiday weekend.
To those who plan on staying in the Bay Area for Labor Weekend, this is THE place to be. To those who are leaving for the holiday, I do apologize that
you will miss all the fun.
Attendees can catch the Indigo Girls, Stephanie Mills, The Matches, Bobby Hutcherson, Rose Royce and Walter Hawkins as this year’s concert headliners. Or, enjoy other dance, band and choir performances at one of the six stages.
If you’d rather walk around, head over to the many artisan booths. There is something for everyone, from jewelry, imported crafts, sculpture, and clothing. Feeling creative? Then grab a brush, make your way to the community mural and showcase your talents.
Surely, all this fun will make you hungry, so chow down on some BBQ, fish tacos, jambalaya, smoked turkey legs, fish and chips, shish kabobs and much more. Don’t forget to snack on the kettle corn either, and have funnel cake, sweet potato pie and strawberry shortcake for dessert.
As for the little souls, they have their own fun-filled area. This year’s Family Fun Zone includes: carnival rides, inflatable bouncers and an
obstacle course, storytelling, face painting, magic shows and interactive
art.
General admission is $10 at the door, $5 for youth (13-18) and seniors (65+), and free for children 12 and under. For more information log on to
