The town of Lafayette is named for a Frenchman who fought on the American side during the Revolutionary War: the Marquis de Lafayette. On Friday, September 5, the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa plans to mark the general’s birthday—he’d be 251!—with its first Wines of France dinner.
A champagne reception with Taittinger Brut La Française in the hotel’s Fountain Courtyard kicks off the evening’s fete, followed by a four-course dinner, which will include an appetizer, poached sole and lamb cassoulet dishes, and dessert. Chef Chuck Courtney says he enjoys pairing food with French wines. “I appreciate the old-world flavors of wines from France,” says Courtney. “They can be a great match with food, rather than the wines of the New World, which can be more oaky and rich.”
An Alphonse Mellot Sancerre from the Loire Valley and a Chateau Haut-Colombier Bordeaux will be among the wines poured. After dinner, guests can dance under the stars to the music of Generations in Jazz.
